International Islands Tourism Conference Held in Zhejiang Zhoushan Archipelago

The 2019 International Islands Tourism Conference  (IITCZS) has been successfully held from August 28 to August 30, 2019 in Zhoushan Archipelago, Zhejiang Province. Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Poeple’s Republic of China and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, this conference is organized by Zhoushan Municipal People’s Government and Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, with  Tripvivid and Qulv as co-organizers.

 

Themed on “New Islands, New Scenes, New Growth Drivers”, the 2019 IITCZS is aimed to promote the exchanges and trade across the industrial chain of marine and islands tourism development, build a diplomatic platform  between China and island tourism countries and regions in the world, and establish an IP flagbearer in international islands tourism industries.

Across the three days, over one thousand guests from more than 25 island countries and regions in the world attended this grand event.

Attendees worth of particular attention are three ministerial-level officials from island countries, guest speakers from Alibaba, Ctrip, Spring Airlines, Thomas Cook China, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Greater China, R&F Cultural Tourism Group, and delegations from Richmond of America, Norland County of Norway, Ganghwa County of Korea, Imus City of the Phillippines, which are four friend cities of Zhoushan Municipality.

In addition, representatives from consulate-generals in Shanghai, embassies in China, foreign tourism bureaus, leadership from tourism groups, cultural tourism companies, investing organizations, securities bodies, research institutes as well as journalists from approximately one hundred media outlets attended the conference.

This conference generally consists of eight sessions: Cultural Tourism Investment and Financing Closed-door Meeting, Welcome Banquet, Opening Ceremony, Main Forum, Forum, Parallel Session, Islands Tourism Prouducts Exhibition and Business Reception.

 

In his remarks at the opening ceremony, Cheng Yuechong, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government said that island destinations in Zhejiang received 100 million visitors in 2018 and thetotal income related to island tourism exceeded 150 billion RMB. It showed that island tourism has gained a prominent position in the development of the oceanic economy of Zhejiang and become a new growth point in the tourism industry, playing a critical role in satisfying the people’s aspirations to live a better life.

Hon.Ranjith Aluwihare MP., Sri Lankan State minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife, and Religious Affairs noted that “the IITCZS is an important conference that would enlighten us with updated information on tourist developments in island nations, new tourism related technologies, educate us with informative speeches, forums and exhibitions.”

“It is an excellent event. It is a very insightful event as well. Learned a lot too. I feel the IITCZS is a very good platform to exchange industry knowledge and experiences. I feel this programme can also act as a catalyst to stimulate exchange of potential investment or co-investment between investors in the industry vice versa – say the island & maritime and water resource park development is an excellent idea that can attract co-investment as well as industry knowhow & experience from established island destinations like Maldives, Seychelles and other similar destinations.” Sobah Rasheed, deputy ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in China, commented.

Dai Bin, President of China Tourism Academy, delivered a keynote speech and released “Research on the Competitiveness Ranking of Global Island Tourism Destinations” in the main forum. Before that, Liu Zhaohui, President of TECSO Travel Consumption Academy and Founder & CEO of Tripvivid, issued “World Islands Tourism Industry Development Report”.

Statistics from several Chinese tourism platforms shows that it is estimated that island tourism products will grow in booking volume of a compounded 30 percent annual rate in the coming three years. Currently, the market size of island tourism in China has surpassed 100 billion RMB.

Island resources from Zhejiang have attracted numerous investing institutes and cultural tourism companies. During the opening ceremony, over 20 project cooperation agreements related to cultural tourism and island destinations have been signed between local government bodies and their partners, with a total investment volume of roughly 50 billion RMB.
